Beginning in April, the basement exhibition space at Cukrarna Gallery will become the setting for a project by the group Laibach.

The UNTERNEHMEN BARBAROSSA project intertwines themes and visuals from Nikolaj Pirnat's partisan graphics with reference to Picasso’s Guernica, and the story of an Afghan family from Kabul who wove a carpet based on a sketch provided by the group. A recreation of Laibach's historic 1983 concert at the Music Biennale Zagreb—an event that led to their ban from 1983 to 1987—will be performed.

In collaboration with scientists from the MOSAiC expedition, the musical instrument KLIMATON ARCTIC was created — a resonating body of the Arctic. The landscape itself becomes the composer, its disappearance the score. But how do you play a dying world?

Listening becomes a radical gesture - an attempt to intertwine with the landscape, which is the thermometer of the earth. The evening is a collective approach to the irretrievable.

Sound artists such as Kirsten Reese, Tengal Drilon & Mo’ong, Daniel Dominguez Teruel and Thies Mynther will breathe, touch, rage, and lament with the instrument… Soundscapes oscillating between requiem, ecological and political meditations, and raw noise — an acoustic cartography of decay.

Texts by Heike Geißler, Sivan Ben Yishai and Adnan Softić flicker like marginal notes of weltschmerz, while the video projections by the duo Komposter transform the performance into an archive of data melancholy.

LAST PRAYER is a multimedia performance by Evy Schubert that develops a new form of contemporary drama from digital imagery and social media content. Every day, we are flooded with media images of horror, of old and new crises: Wars, disasters and of the ongoing destruction of our planet. Apocalyptic imagery. Against this backdrop – and as an alternative – visual escapism sells itself: natural idylls, images of contemplation. The digital celebrates the beauty of the planet during its demise. It contrasts the finiteness of life with the infinity of image creation.

KEIN WORT is the 4th feature length film by Berlin based, award winning director Hanna Slak. Centred on the relationship of a single mother and her child the film explores the nature of trust and the consequences of its loss. It expresses how important it is to change, communicate genuinely, and open to the other in order to build stronger relationships. 

Premiered at the International Toronto Film Festival (TIFF).

The Klimaton is a unique musical instrument that scatters the melting landscape of the Arctic into space in the form of a sound body. In an attempt to make the climate crisis more tangible, the artist duo Softic, have developed a performative setting with texts and sound compositions.

Alamut is an original symphonic work by Laibach based on a famous story from eleventh-century Persia, as told by the Slovene writer Vladimir Bartol in his novel of the same title published in 1938.

Composed by Luka Jamnik in collaboration with Iranian composers - Idin Samimi Mofakham and Nima A. Rowshan. Conducted by Navid Gohari. Also appearing the Human-Voice Ensemble vocal group (Iran) and many others.

A piece of the project "Kreativ Inklusiv" in collaboration with the Ensemble Angestrahlt

"Kreativ Inklusiv" explores with young people how access to theatre can be designed in a barrier-free and participatory way, with content revolving around the questions: What is normal and who actually gets to determine that?! How can we come together in a space full of barriers and challenges? How can we understand each other without language? How can we hold each other, without effort?

With the support of creative captioning, simple language, image-based communication and pedagogical assistance, we bring together what belongs together: theatre-loving people with and without disabilities who, with their diverse abilities, kick the concept of "normal" right in the butt.

The concurrent artistic careers of G. Ligeti and J. Beuys have instilled a desire in Vollmaier for cooperation and new creation inspired by their artistic outputs. On the one hand, this was Ligeti's "extreme electronic" approach to the acoustic instrument and, on the other hand, Beuys' concept of tearing down the wall between life and art.

Performed in Cankarjev dom’s Gallus Hall on the centenary of the composer’s birth. Three Ligeti’s piano compositions have been selected. Vollmaier will perform two variations on each composition, using both contemporary and classical musical techniques to create a sonically and visually enhanced acoustic/electronic performance art.

The INDUSTRIE is part of the series Dead On Arrival (D. O. A.) with contemporary music for voices. D.O.A. challenges the impending irrelevance of the voice in current music in society. In its D.O.A. series, PHØNIX16 tries to initiate a paradigm shift in a comprehensible way in order to find a new status of music for voices nationally and internationally.
